"Sugar Regulation Disorder" by Jackie Joy

Sugar Regulation Disorder
I met the ghost of my addict self
Sitting on a settee in a New England farmhouse
Gobbling sugar bombs with glee
“It’s Halloween after all,” she sighed and swayed

Giggling and gagging crumbs
Licking her fingers and thumbs
She began to fade from sight

Words I heard
As she disappeared into the night
One is too many
A thousand is never enough
